What is Thai language?
T
he Thai language belongs to one of the oldest language families in the world the Austro-Thai group and the script was developed by King Ramkhamhaeng in 1283. Thai is actually a monosyllabic language which has matured over the years and has adapted some new foreign words into it's language. The Thai language has 42 consonants, 21 vowels (32 sounds) and uses 5 tones. Depending on the tone a word can have 5 different meanings.
Is speaking Thai difficult?
It's actually easier than you think!
The grammar is very straight forward and quite easy to learn. The most daunting aspect of learning Thai for foreigners is learning the 5 different tones. However your ear will soon get used to the new sounds and progress will be fast. Chances are the Thai's will regularily commend you on how well you speak,
"ooooh, koon phuut Thai kheng".
